         Kyle's Legacy     Kyle Miller Memorial Scholarship 

​

The KYLE MILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP, an endowed Otterbein University scholarship that lives on in perpetuity, was created in 2014.  Earnings from the endowment as well as contributions from the 5Ks provide annual awards to assist zoo and conservation science major students in fulfilling an experiential learning requirement.  The recipients exhibit the leadership and passion for wildlife and conservation that exemplifies Kyle Miller's spirit.

Karagan Ross - Tuition for internship with Oceans Research, South Africa

Chelsey Butler & Cat Jenkins - Flights to China for internship at Chengdu Panda Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Gwen Broberick & Emma Kimberly - Flights to Panama for Red-eyed Treefrog Research

Gabby McDonald & Rachel Wilson - Hotel and Flight to National Zoo Pretoria South Africa for internship

Amanda Sibert - Stipend for summer internship at Reid Park Zoo Tucson, AZ

 

 

2017

Eileen Connon - worked with the Cape Parrot Project in South Africa to save the Cape Parrot.

Sofia Contreras - worked with monkeys at Monkeyland in South Africa.

2016

Delaney Galbraith - worked with the Cape Parrot Project in South Africa to save the Cape Parrot.

Kelly Jackson - traveled to Chengdu, China to the premier panda conservation center.

 

2015

Amanda Stilwell - interned at the Brookfield Zoo, Brookfield, IL researching red pandas.

Matt Vieth - interned at the Reid Park Zoo, Tucson, AZ  and worked with the elephants.

The Zoo and Conservation Science class of 2016 in front of the tree that they raised money to have planted on campus in Kyle's memory.

2016 scholarship recipient Kelly Jackson wrote:  

"With each year the tree grows and grows, like Kyle growing along with us.  Each year, new leaves will sprout, just as new students will come along.  Each year, old leaves will fall, just as students will graduate, and move on."
